Campus Movie Fest

I have been trying to make a decent movie for Campus Movie Fest since I started at this school 3 years ago. After 2 failed attempts I believe this year I will successfully make a movie because the team I am working with is motivated and determined.
I find it is very hard to get everything done in a week, and people like me who are just out to have fun and make a movie are at a serious disadvantage. Did the winners from last year film and edit everything that they shot in a single week? I know the answer to this question, and if you watch the movie, I think you will too.
I think the guidelines should be stricter and people who have more money and more time on their hands should not be rewarded for starting the project early and not adhering to the guidelines. This is just my opinion, but I think people who play by the rules and film everything in a week should have just as good a shot at winning then people who start filming and editing months beforehand.

Dinosaurs

I recently purchased the dvd of the show Dinosaurs because I liked it a lot when I was little and I was wondering if I would still like it. I found the show to be more adult oriented and a bit preachy but overall it was a lot different than I remember it being.
Disney produces the show Dinosaurs, so as soon as that came on the screen, I knew there would be underlying messages. Watching it now I know there were so many things that went right over my head when I was younger. I thought it was just a show about a family of dinosaurs but I now realize that they covered subjects such as drugs and sex.
The messages portrayed in the show were forward and it was clearly showing right from wrong,
which would be visible to younger children. This show was obviously more based for adults , but it was
also watchable for children, because the children would think it was funny and the adults could actually
understand the plot and most likely relate to it.

Failing Communication in Real Life

I am writing this blog after bringing my friend to the store today. He needed to go to the mall to get his paycheck, so I agreed to give him a ride. I was upset when he got in the car and barely talked to me because he was texting someone the whole time. I believe the craze in text messaging is ruining face to face communication all together.
Before texting, people had to call each other to make plans. Now it is simply just easy for them to make plans or talk without any verbal communication. People are more likely to text than call because they feel it is less awkward.
A good example of this was my next door neighbor left a note introducing herself and giving her phone number. I started texting her and she seemed normal but when she actually came over to hang out she was a complete psycho. She started by being really quiet, then she was telling us wayy too much information than anyone should on the first time you meet them. I feel like texting lets people hide behind the screen and it makes people all around less sociable.

Kids

I want to talk today about a one of my favorite movies that I had forgotten about for a year or so and just recently watched. I'm talking about Larry Clarke's 1995 debut film Kids. This movie was the most realistic movie I had ever seen involving teenagers. Clarke set out to make the movie equivalent to the great American novel.
I want to talk about this movie because it is probably my all time favorite and if you have not seen it you probably should. This movie was before it's time in terms of content and subject matter. This movie covered aids in youth and just showed a gritty real perspective of what is going on in the world.
This film was slapped with an NC-17 rating, but it is now on dvd with just an unrated version. This was by far Larry Clarke's best film and I recommend it to everyone that I talk to. I felt like writing a blog about this because I feel like it is just such and underrated and realistic movie that pretty much anyone that has not seen it hopefully will and enjoy it.

Avatar

James Cameron's Avatar was one of the greatest movies ever made. I went with a few friends on the opening night in December to the midnight showing at the IMAX theater in 3d. The whole story reminded me of Pocahontas; it was almost like it was supposed to be the futuristic version of the Disney classic. The main story was about this "When his brother is killed in a robbery, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na'vi people with the use of an "avatar" identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora”(IMDB).

The 3-D was awesome too. It wasn’t like normal 3-D movies, where things popped out on you. It was just more like when they would be walking through the forest, you would see the plants right next to you. I ended up seeing it a second time because me and my girlfriend really liked it, but I refused to see it in regular 2-D. I paid the extra to see the 3-D because it was such a good movie, I felt that seeing it 2-D would just ruin it.
