Failing Communication in Real Life

I am writing this blog after bringing my friend to the store today. He needed to go to the mall to get his paycheck, so I agreed to give him a ride. I was upset when he got in the car and barely talked to me because he was texting someone the whole time. I believe the craze in text messaging is ruining face to face communication all together.
Before texting, people had to call each other to make plans. Now it is simply just easy for them to make plans or talk without any verbal communication. People are more likely to text than call because they feel it is less awkward.
A good example of this was my next door neighbor left a note introducing herself and giving her phone number. I started texting her and she seemed normal but when she actually came over to hang out she was a complete psycho. She started by being really quiet, then she was telling us wayy too much information than anyone should on the first time you meet them. I feel like texting lets people hide behind the screen and it makes people all around less sociable.
