Remakes
With the new Freddy movie coming out friday, I find it interesting that there is a growing trend in remakes of horror movies. In the last few years, there have been Halloween, Firday the 13th, and now there is a new Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I know the directors of these movies are trying to pay homage to the original films, but sometimes they take it too far. In my opinion, the new Friday the 13th, was the worst of the classic horrow movie remakes. The acting was sub par and the story lacked what the original had. One of the only remakes I really enjoyed was the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I feel like directors are only remaking these types of movies, because people will see them because they had seen the old ones. This will bring in more at the box office than if there was a whole new horrow movie with new characters.

I feel like the old remakes aren't about getting people who've seen the originals to compare them to the new ones; they want a new audience so they're simply taking an old movie and trying to make money off of it with a new audience. The only upsetting thing is that, no matter how poor the movie may be, it will still make money because of fan service. Then the cycle can repeat over and over and over again.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm sick of remakes--try to be slightly original!
