Youtube

After hanging out with my friend Mary Jane, I ended up on youtube just being bored. I think it is amazing how a site like that which started with nothing became such a phenomenon and a household name. Literally anything that one could possibly think to search for is available in multiple videos. Example would be searching "silly strining cats" and youtube sent me hundreds of pages of videos to choose from. I feel with things like this, people are getting a lot less original, but they are seeing work others have done and work off of that. I just feel youtube and the internet as a whole is killing originality.

  1. not everything is on youtube. and i think that if we limit ourselves to what is on youtube for entertainment, we limit ourselves to what is of merit out there. there is little copyrighted comment on youtube, and i think the next big leap in acess to media on a largescale is being able to watch movies and other copyrighted videos for free or a little price. like netflix only better

  2. I have to say that I have seen an amazing amount of music videos from *ahem* KISS and Gary Numan on YouTube. Works great while you're brushing your teeth!

  3. Well, I disagree on the lacking originality--what about people who perform something, post it on YouTube, then make a fortune by getting picked up by a bigger name? Without Youtube, these people would probably never be heard.

There is a good point that it hurts some physical materials, such as "How To" books, but that's the internet as a whole and, really, people still buy the books even though they could go online and figure it out for free.
